WHAT IS HIGH DEFINITION TV?

High definition television offers the highest quality
picture currently available for home entertainment.
High definition TV uses either 720 or 1080 lines of
picture information, compared to the U.K. PAL
standard of 576 lines.
Many LCD TVs are HD Ready, having a screen
resolution of either 1280 x 720 or 1366 x 768 pixels
and most screen sizes will produce good high definition
images containing over 1 million pixels. The REGZA ZF
series will display stunning high definition images using
all the 2 million plus pixels at its disposal.
ACTIVE VISION M100 HD

The 46ZF355D delivers an amazing 100 frames per second, twice the current standard. The Active Vision M100 HD technology
creates new frames to appear between the transmitted frames. It uses complicated mathematics involving 10-BIT video processing and 360º motion estimation to calculate the movement required by each pixel of the new intermediate image to take it halfway to the pixel’s new position in the consecutive broadcast frame.

5:5 OUTPUT
The REGZA ZF series features 5:5 pull down for the purest reproduction of film. Each of the original 24 frames is replicated exactly and then repeated 5 times in 1/24 of a second to deliver the 24fps quality of cinema, but with the smooth, flicker-free image transition of 120Hz picture processing. This technology
is another reason why the 46ZF355D is perfect for displaying the highly detailed, vibrant images offered by HD DVD.

HDMI™ DEEP COLOUR

This function is the latest addition to the extraordinary list of capabilities of HDMI™ and means the REGZA ZF series can produce billions of colours instead of the previous limit of a few million colours.

FULL 10-BIT PROCESSING

This term refers to the ability of the 46ZF355D LCD display to represent colours, in all their glory, subtle differences and enormous number. Conventional LCD televisions utilise 8-BIT processing; producing a colour palette of approximately 16.7 million colours.
Unfortunately it will have to ‘dither’ colours in its palette
to create a near approximation of the colours it does not have within its palette, leading to colour banding,particularly on images when there is very subtle difference in colour tones.
Processing at 10 bits per channel creates a palette with
more than a billion colours with the 46ZF355. Full 10-BIT processing is used in all stages of image manipulation by the REGZA ZF series to create every possible colour without the need for dithering. This eliminates the problem of colour banding and guarantees high definition images appear more vibrant,more realistic and possess smooth colour transition.

WIDE COLOUR GAMUT

The range of colours visible to the human eye is referred to as ‘colour space’ and is represented by the arch shape in the diagram. The various triangles represent the best colour reproduction technology has developed so far. High definition images require a much broader spectrum of colours to represent the stunning
pictures more accurately.Careful manipulation of the backlight increases the number of shades of any given colour. The 46zf355d delivers sharper, more vibrant images with a true-to-life quality, with ‘redder’ reds and ‘greener’ greens; and more of them.

DYNAMIC GAMMA CURVE CORRECTION

Correction of the Gamma Curve changes the brightness, contrast, colour balance or a combination of all three to keep the important mid-tones consistent.An image saturated with colour can become washed out if the shadows and mid-tones are not maintained.
Similarly a dark image with little colour will lose all detail
when highlights are reduced by lack of colour.The image processing chip in the 46ZF355D utilises Dynamic Gamma Curve Correction technology to constantly check the mid-tones, highlights and
shadows, comparing them for colour saturation,brightness and contrast. Small adjustments are made to the LCD display backlight to maintain the mid-toneoutputs at the level of the original signal to produce the very best image quality.
